National Semiconductor has completed the sale of its Cyrix stand-alone PC processor business to VIA Technologies.
Part of the $167 million price was paid at closing, with the remainder contingent on future sales of Cyrix products.
The transaction includes the MII x86-compatible processor and its successors. National will hold onto its integrated MediaGX chip, the basis of its new Geode family of chips for the “information appliance” market.
