Linux distributor Red Hat will release the 6.1 version of its namesake operating system next week.

The OS will feature streamlined installation, online software updates, and enhancements for managing distributed computing architectures.

Caldera Systems, a Red Hat competitor, unveiled an enhanced version of its openLinux on Sept. 13, featuring remote mass-installation capabilities, Y2K compliance, and an improved Linux wizard.
