Top-secret Transmeta to take on Intel

A super-secret Silicon Valley start-up, which employs Linux creator Linus Torvalds, has been awarded a patent that reveals its aim: The company intends go head-to-head with Intel to carve itself out a piece of the processor market.

However, the new patent indicates that Transmeta is pursuing a different strategy than that of other Intel chip cloners. Analysts say the firm will sidestep key Intel patents, thus eliminating costly licensing fees to the processor giant.
