Music industry targets MP3 pirates

The global music industry is planning a coordinated attack on Internet piracy by taking action against hundreds of illegal sites in more than 20 countries.

The campaign by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) targets two groups: people who upload material on to the Internet, mainly in the MP3 format, and ISPs that may be hosting illegal Web sites.

The group hopes to shut down outlaw sites and delete unauthorized files in countries around the globe from Japan to the United States, Argentina, South Africa and Europe.
