Athlons better value than PIIIs?

A new comparison between Athlons and Pentium III’s clocked at 500MHz, 550MHz and 600MHz concludes that AMD parts are cheaper at both the low and the high end.

According to a report on The Register web site, a 650MHz Athlon now costs $118 less than a comparable 650MHz PIII.

The web site also reports that AMD will introduce a 750MHz part later this month, challenging Intel with an Athlon chip running at a higher clock rate than any Pentium III. Intel’s Coppermine-based 733MHz chip is still in very short supply, according to the story posted at www.theregister.com.
