Microsoft will allow customers to rent MS Office productivity software via the Internet by the end of the year.
In addition to Microsoft’s Central Web services portal, the software rental service will also be available from 14 other companies, including British Telecom, Concentric Network, Micron Electronics and Qwest Communications.
Software renters will be able to access the Office application suite online through terminal servers designed to emulate the Windows desktop.
The rental partners will set their own pricing for the software services.
