HP 64-bit chips put focus on Linux

Hewlett-Packard has stepped up its efforts to marry its most powerful processors with the open-source Linux operating system.

HP has retained a Linux consultancy to ensure the compatibility of its advanced, 64-bit PA-RISC chips with Linux by the first half of next year.

HP is paying the Puffin Group to get the Linux port ready for the PA-RISC chip by February, with the final version due in June.
