New PCs sport 800MHz PIIIs

Dell, Gateway and Hewlett-Packard have all announced consumer-friendly desktops with 750MHz and 800MHz Pentium III chips under the hood.

Users will shell out between $2,500 and $3,000 for systems with all the trimmings, including a 800MHz chip paired with Intel’s 820 chip set, Rambus memory, and a monitor.

Compaq and IBM officials said their companies will announce systems based the new Intel chips in the near future.
