A Y2K glitch briefly interrupted the processing of data from a U.S. satellite spying operation in what defense officials called the only significant failure resulting from the advent of 2000.
The problem lasted for about two or three hours until back-up procedures took over. The satellites themselves remained under full control, officials said.
They also noted there were fewer attempts than usual to break into the department’s systems but that at least one hacker had tried and was stopped. Typical viruses had also been detected but were successfully contained.
