Nuclear powers end Y2K monitoring

U.S. and Russian military experts declared success as they ended a joint effort aimed at preventing a nuclear disaster caused by the Y2K computer bug.

Experts from the world’s two major nuclear powers had been working side by side at a military command center in Colorado since December 30. The two countries also maintained direct contact during the rollover in case a computer mistakenly indicated a nuclear missile launch.
