Consumer protest targets DoubleClick

A consumer advocacy group has organized a protest against DoubleClick, encouraging the public to email complaints about the online marketing giant’s privacy policies to the company and 60 of its clients.

The Center for Democracy and Technology claims DoubleClick is attempting to use its relationships with prominent Internet companies to track the online activities of millions of individuals and tie them to those individuals’ offline activities.

The protest comes after DoubleClick last week disclosed plans to create a database of consumer profiles that would include each user’s name and address, their retail, catalog and online purchase history, and demographic data.
