Security experts say the recent series of outages at several high-profile Web sites appears to be the result of a coordinated effort.
In the past two days, eBay, Buy.com, Amazon.com. CNN.com and Yahoo! have all suffered denial-of-service attacks – a technique in which attackers use a large number of compromised servers to flood a target with data.
The latest attacks on Tuesday blocked traffic to both eBay, the Web’s largest online auctioneer, and retailer Buy.com, while Amazon.com’s site was virtually shut down.
Meawhile, the FBI has been brought in to investigate Monday’s attack that knocked Yahoo! offline for three hours.
