Inexpensive device mimics human vision

A French technology research firm has unveiled an inexpensive system-on-a-chip that mimics human vision.

The Generic Visual Perception Processor (GVPP) can process 20 billion instructions per second, automatically detecting objects and tracking their movement in real-time, according to Bureau d’Etudes Vision (BEV).

A complete GVPP system should cost less than $50, the company said, with possible applications in manufacturing, transportation, medicine, security identification and weapons systems.
