What, WindowsMe worry?

Microsoft “remains confident” it will be able to ship Windows Millennium Edition later this year, despite reports that recent beta releases are, as one tester put it, “mondo buggy.”

The company has reportedly added a new TCP/IP stack to the most recent beta builds, resulting in Millennium breaking “half the cards out there,” according to another beta tester.

Also known as WindowsMe, the operating system is Microsoft’s first purely consumer-focused version of Windows, designed to be easier to use than its predecessor, Windows 98 Second Edition, with improved capacities for digital media entertainment, gaming, home networking and shared networking.
