Anti-spam law declared illegal

One of the strongest anti-spam laws in the U.S. has been declared unconstitutional.

The Washington state law, approved in 1998, banned commercial e-mail with misleading information in the subject line, an invalid reply address or a disguised path of transmission across the Internet.

However, a judge ruled that the statute violates the interstate-commerce clause because it is “unduly restrictive and burdensome,” hurting legitimate businesses more than it helps consumers.
