Handspring goes retail

Handspring will begin selling its handheld computers in retail stores, the company said.

The Visor and Visor Deluxe will sell for $179 and $249, respectively, at CompUSA, Best Buy and Staples starting next week.

Handspring has been selling the devices through its own Web site since last September, but was hampered by e-commerce software glitches and customer service complaints.

Based on the Palm operating system, the Visor will compete for shelf space against Palm devices and Microsoft’s Pocket PC, set for release April 19.
