Dell denies AMD chip deal

Dell Computer has denied reports of a pending deal to buy AMD Athlon processors for use in its PCs.

Company vice chairman Kevin Rollins confirmed that Dell officials regularly met with officials from AMD, but said the talks amounted to nothing more than just meetings.

Dell remains the only major PC manufacturer that does not use AMD processors in its computers, and instead relies exclusively on supplies from rival chipmaker Intel.
