AMD debuts Thunderbird, Duron

Advanced Micro Devices has released its new high-performance Athlon processor, code-named Thunderbird, along with its new low-cost chip, the Duron.

The Thunderbird includes 256 kB of processor-dedicated memory on the chip and is available at six different clock speeds up to 1GHz, with prices ranging from $319 to $990. The Duron, offering 64 kB of integrated L2 cache and 200MHz system bus support, was introduced at speeds of up to 700MHz, with prices ranging from $112 to $192.
