Scientists report nanotechnology breakthrough

Researchers have discovered that tiny protein-like strands on the surface of common viruses can also be used to “grow” ultra-miniaturized computer chips.

The electrical pathways for such a device would be self-assembled, in the same way that an oyster makes mother-of-pearl, and would measure only a fraction the size of the smallest circuit components possible today, according to a report in the journal Nature.
