U.S. House challenges government Websites' privacy compliance

House leaders have urged the White House to force the IRS and other government agencies to meet the same privacy standards that the Federal Trade Commission has set forth for private Websites. The move is seen as a challenge to powers that government regulators have recently asserted over the Internet. The investigative branch of Congress, the General Accounting Office, has been ordered to survey U.S. government Websites using the same techniques and standards that the FTC has applied to private sites.
