IBM unveils 2GHz embedded SRAM

IBM said it has developed a 2GHz embedded SRAM device to boost the performance of its upcoming Blue Flame chip.

Targeted at high-performance mainframe as well as graphics and communications applications, the device – developed with IBM’s new CMOS technology and low resistance copper interconnects – will speed access to machine instructions in the Level 1 cache to more than 2GHz at 34 kbits, with a read access time of less than 430 ps, according to the company.
