Homes with two or more linked computers using high-speed Internet connections may have had their video and music files accessed and catalogued by the search engine of Scour Inc., a Beverly Hills company that claims millions of users and one of the largest collections of entertainment files. A company spokesman said, “It may be unfamiliar technology to users, but it’s certainly legal and not uncommon to search publicly available content.” The company says it will stop searching home computers that use a “file sharing protocol” but there is nothing to prevent others from accessing vulnerable machines.
