IBM announced last week the first results of an open storage standards agreement worked out between itself and Compaq. The Modular Storage Server is a low-cost Fibre Channel RAID storage device. The IBM MSS can be configured with 10,000- or 15,000-rpm drives, adding to approximately 4 teraBytes capacity, IBM said. The product will cost “less than $70,000” but a second entry-level server that stores up to 2 teraBytes will cost approximately $10,500.
