The need for embedded systems on individual chip may lessen if Ampro Computers Inc. is successful in marketing its Encore 500 solution. Aiming to help reduce time-to-market as well as the cost of designing embedded chips, Ampro has designed a compromise in a very small single-board computer. Though larger than a single chip, it can fit into many applications and has the advantage of being easily modified to fit a range of needs. A spokesman for the company says, “This is a radically different business than it was five years ago.”
