ASCI White delivered

Scientists at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory have taken delivery of IBM’s ASCI White, the supercomputer that has taken on near celebrity status in recent months. The computer, covering an area as large as two basketball courts, can perform 12.3 teraflops, or trillions, of calculations per second and is over three times as fast as any other computer ever built. The ASCI project, initiated by President Clinton, includes plans for a series of supercomputers, the largest with 100 teraflops, over time.
