Sony’s Airboard is a portable 10″ LCD touch-screen display that provides Web and TV access, simultaneously if users wish. It can also control electronic devices plugged into the system’s base station. Other manufacturers are working on similar devices but Sony will, apparently, be the first to deliver a Web pad to market. The same parts shortage that has caused delays shipping Sony’s PS2 game consoles will slow the deployment of the product into Europe and the US. Sources say the Airboard will cost about $1100 and will be available in Japan on December 1.
