Linux leaders say Linux will converge

Sony’s Vaio PictureBook laptops containing Transmeta’s much-anticipated Crusoe processors have been released in Japan and some of the real performance numbers are beginning to appear. Much is at stake for Transmeta, as the word “upstart” seems at times to be part of its corporate name. The claims made about the Crusoe line can now be verified and, according to The Register, the results are mixed. While battery life is doubled with the new power-efficient chips, the “all day” claim that circulated earlier does not hold up.
