SDMI crack spat continues

A writer for The Register (Biting the hand that feeds IT) is speculating that Intel Corp.’s further slipping of the re-release date of the 1.13GHz Pentium 3 is a public relations ploy. According to his thinking, the P4 will have hit 1.7GHz by the second quarter of next year, when the recalled chip is scheduled to return, making the need for a 1.13GHz P3 irrelevant.

In related news, the same writer notes that the annual financial statement by Rambus Inc. portends ominously for its shareholders. Given the public fracture between Intel and Rambus this week, a statement that explicitly ties Rambus’ financial future to the P4 is, at the least, interesting.
