Carmakers choose bus standard

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. has confirmed that it plans to sell a 2GHz 64-bit ClawHammer in Q2 2002. In Q1 next year the 1200/266 Athlon will run at 133MHz to 1.33GHz in Q2 and then to 1.7 later in the year. The Duron will move from 850MHz in Q1 to 900MHz in Q2, hitting 1GHz before 2002 when it is scheduled to reach 1.1GHz. According to The Register, Intel will take back the fastest high-end market next year, leaving AMD the market between 1GHz and 1.5GHz. “It’s a niche market, sure. But it’s a pretty damned big niche market.”
