Crypto group to make RIP moot

IBM is making DB2 Universal Database for Linux available on its zSeries and S/390 mainframes, two versions of its WebSphere Applications Server for those same systems, and a version of Extended Enterprise Edition for Linux that runs on Intel-based clusters. One analyst points out that the move is important to the open-source operating system because Linux has not had a back-end database. According to a writer for InfoWorld, “Some believe this announcement and others made by IBM during the past several months will embolden users to push Linux up to their highest system platform and encourage those only thinking about such a move to take the leap.”
