Intel Corp. has launched an 800-MHz Celeron processor, the first Celeron offering a 100-MHz system bus. The chip will be priced at $170 each in 1,000-unit quantities. Also launching are a new low-cost desktop 810E2 chipset with 100-MHz system bus technology with advanced I/O control, ATA-100 Ultra DMA hard drives, and new Universal Serial Bus (USB) controllers with four “plug-and-play” ports. Two desktop boards for the 810E2 chipset, the microATX D810E2CA3 and FlexATX Intel Desktop Board D810E2CB, will support Pentium III and Celeron processors.
