Linux lab opens with new support

In a blow to the Secure Digital Music Initiative, Executive Director Leonard Chiariglione has announced his decision to phase out of the organization over the next three months. Observers say that Chiariglione, despite impatience with those who disagree with him, has held together the coalition of music companies, consumer-electronics manufacturers and computer manufacturers working on a technology capable of significantly reducing digital piracy. Chiariglione also played a pivotal role in the formation of the Moving Pictures Expert Group (MPEG) that produced the MP3 format, A spokesperson said Chiariglione’s increased responsibilities at Telecom Italia research division CSLET are the cause of his resignation.
