Show us those Irises, eh?

Canada has announced that it will begin testing iris-scanning technology equipment at its airports in Toronto and Vancouver in March 2003. Citing the need to free up long waits at airport customs and immigration lines at its international airports, Canada will allow registered frequent international fliers to utilize this technology. Initially, the CANPASS scanning program will only be made available to Canadian citizens and residents, but Canada hopes to eventually expand it to travelers from countries that have visa-exempt status with Canada, such as the United States. The CANPASS program costs C$50 per year and applicants must first apply and then pass a security background check to be able to participate.
