Game of Thrones Could Go Eight Seasons

Game of Thrones is still one of the hottest shows on TV, if not the hottest, and the ratings juggernaut should keep going for some time. But how long can Game of Thrones realistically go?

As Vanity Fair reports, Michael Lombardo, the president of programming at HBO, has said, “Seven-seasons-and-out has never been the [internal] conversation. The question is: how much beyond seven are we going to do? Obviously we’re shooting six now, hopefully discussing seven.”

Lombardo said that the showrunners, David Benioff and DB Weiss, are thinking there could be eight years total, “that’s what we’re looking at right now.”

While there’s no concrete plans for a prequel or spin-off, HBO would definitely be open for one. And as for the Jon Snow conspiracy theories, forget it. “He’s dead. Dead is dead is dead.” (The fact that he’s still hanging out on the set might have spurned the rumors that Snow could come back, and this could also spur the wishful thinking of a prequel.)
