Star Wars Hits Comic-Con

You knew with Comic-Con coming to San Diego, there would be a ton of Star Wars news, and sure enough, the original three, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford, made it down to talk about The Force Awakens.

As the Daily Beast reports, one of the revelations this weekend is that The Force Awakens has three villains, Kylo Ren, General Hux, and Captain Phasma. Also JJ Abrams insisted on using minimal CGI for the movie, building real creatures and sets. As he told the audience, “We wanted to tell a story that would make us feel, and feel like a continuum of the incredible story George Lucas started.”

Comic-Con fans also learned that the first standalone Star Wars movie, Rogue One, will start shooting in three weeks.

Not to mention, as The Verge reports, there won’t be a new trailer until the Fall, but the behind the scenes documentary, which was just about four minutes long, clearly gave the fans a lot to take in and enjoy.

This was also Harrison Ford’s first public appearance since his plane crash, telling the audience, “I just walked here, I’m good.” Ford, who was never really nuts about playing Han Solo, told the Comic-Con audience, “I never thought it would come back to bless me instead of curse me. I was very gratified when I read the script, because I read something that I thought was really remarkable. Well written, with some intriguing developments. So I was delighted to be involved.”

As far as the behind the scenes footage from The Force Awakens, Esquire was especially blown away at how “everything looks very, very real…as the clip promises, they’re ‘keeping one foot in the pre-digital world.’”
