Leonard Nimoy R.I.P.

As we all know by now, Leonard Nimoy passed away this morning at the age of 83, and the world has reacted with sadness and great respect for the man, as well as the wonderfully iconic character of Spock he magically brought to life.

Even President Obama paid tribute Nimoy, telling the world in a statement, “I loved Spock. Long before being nerdy was cool, there was Leonard Nimoy. In 2007, I had the chance to meet Leonard in person. It was only logical to greet him with the Vulcan salute, the universal sign for ‘Live long and prosper.’”

While a lot of actors resent being stereotyped, and Nimoy certainly had his ambivalence about playing Spock, we’re willing to bet that he was very pleased that a character he gave life to has lasted so long, and has become one of the most iconic in sci-fi history. Even if you’ve never seen an episode of Trek in your life, you know certainly know the character of Spock from his pointy ears, as well as his famous hand slogan that translated into Live Long and Prosper.

What else can we say except we already miss Nimoy terribly, and we know that his memory will live long and prosper for a long time to come.
