It had to come sooner or later – Linux moving into the notebook arena! “Demand for the Linux notebook launched in Thailand last week has been so high that other vendors may have to be brought in”. Thailand’s Information and Communications Technology Ministry is said to be in talks with Dell regarding the mass production of notebooks running Linux, which will definitely be a slight blow to the highly domineering Microsoft, but we doubt there will be much change in market share, if any at all. Furthermore, “the government is subsidizing the cost of the hardware, and will also provide service and support for the notebook.” – indicating that the primary reason behind utilizing Linux is the fact that it’s free. Interesting, but its unlikely that Linux will cause much of a threat to Microsoft for some time to come. Well, in the mainstream market anyway.
