Philips, Canadian lab to work on audio compression

A joint venture of the Canadian government and Royal Philips Electronics will develop a new audio coding technology, Industry Canada announced today. “Communications Research Centre Canada, and Industry Canada agency, said it and Netherlands-based Philips, Europe’s largest consumer electronics maker, are aiming to improve the company’s existing system, which offers a compression ratio of 60:1.”
