The Turks have Done it; a Real Transformer

At last a childhood dream has become reality, a real Transformer. An Ankara based company, Letvision, has made a real “Transformer” robot using a BMW 3 series as the basis.

The company is actually in the commercial video/touch screen business, it wasn’t clear why they made the Transformer and it isn’t on their homepage, but it got them in the news. The transforming BMW is called Letron.

When I first saw the presentation video, and the fact that it was published on April 1 2016, I thought it was a hoax. They could have done a better job with the sound effects but judge for yourselves.

The machine really doesn’t do much and it works only with remote control so you can’t sit in it and drive away, which makes it technically doable (I think). The fact that the car can actually be driven did impress me. There is another video showing it in a garage that could add a touch of credibilty to the story.

Anyway it is a cool idea, and real or not it got Letvision a lot of publicity and maybe a few new customers. We can only hope that it is an Autobot and not a Decepticon.
