Enterprise HDDs shifting from 3.5" to 2.5" in mainstream size, says WD

  • The mainstream size of enterprise-grade hard disk drives (HDDs) is developing from 3.5" currently toward 2.5" because a 10,000 rpm 2.5" HDD consumes 35% less power than a 3.5" version, according to Paul Martin, Western Digital (WD) senior director for Worldwide Channel Marketing and Enterprise. Since 3.5" HDDs are advantageous in storage capacity, WD provides enterprise users with optimal solutions by combined use of 2.5" and 3.5" HDDs, Martin indicated.
