Los Angeles (CA) - Yahoo today announced that it has reached a deal with Sony BMG music to allow users to essentially have free use of tracks under the record label.
Much like other similar deals seen with Youtube and others, the deal involves Sony getting a cut of Yahoo's advertising revenue. Specific financial details were not disclosed.
The agreement allow users to include Sony BMG songs in any user created video file they upload to a Yahoo site. It also makes digital transfer of Sony BMG music videos legal.
It's the first deal of its kind for Yahoo, and is practically a mirror image of the deal Sony formed with Google's Youtube earlier this year. Sony BMG records represents such big names as Britney Spears and Bruce Springsteen.
