New Zealand tourism company doles out $320,000 for 24-hour YouTube campaign

  • Wellington (New Zealand) - Tourism NZ, a commercial tourist company in New Zealand, will pay a reported $320,000 to YouTube to be features on the site's front page for 24 hours.

    The company claims it is the first to provide sponsored material to the video sharing site.  "Tourism New Zealand has to be first in to embrace new technology if we are to stay ahead of the competition," said Tourism NZ CEO George Hickton.

    The campaign will begin at 4 PM today, and will end at 4 PM tomorrow, for a total advertising cost of NZ$450,000 ($320,000).  At the same time, Tourism NZ will launch an official YouTube channel.
