Sunnyvale (CA) - In an attempt to breathe life into its stuggling music store, Yahoo will add lyrics to more than 400,000 songs already in its database. It claims the new service will offer the largest legally licensed collection of song lyrics.
Unlike the dozens of website that post lyrics, Yahoo actually received permission from record labels to publish them.
Lyric sites are also usually plastered with ads. Unfortunately, that will not change with Yahoo. It will sell ad space alongside the lyrics, the revenue from which will be shared with record companies.
Sony BMG, Sony/ATV, Universal Music, Warner Music, and EMI are all part of the 100 companies that have signed on to Yahoo's new service.
