Intel unveils Geneseo roadmap
At the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in Beijing, Intel unveiled its roadmap for Geneseo technology, which was last year presented at the Fall IDF in San Francisco as a joint Intel-IBM proposal to enhance PCI Express (PCIe) technology to address performance requirements of new usage models, such as visualization and extensible markup language (XML). Now, positioned as an advanced acceleration platform and still targeting to enhance PCIe architecture and performance, the Geneseo project is aimed – among other goals – to propose a common programming model for special-purpose applications, such as math-intensive transactions (financial, scientific and economic models), embedded content processing (data mining, encryption, compression, XML) and visualization and media processing (graphics, video, speech), Intel said.
