Samsung has created a new fuel cell that can power a laptop computer for up to a month without any sort of external power, reports Korean news source Chosun Ilbo. Reportedly, the 1200-watt-hour fuel cell can power a laptop for continued use of eight hours a day, five days a week, for an entire month.
The fuel cell concept, which uses the elctrolyzation of hydrogen and oxygen to provide power, is one of many alternatives to more environmentally harmful means of energy, and this project from Samsung shows one of the first real set of results of a sustained amount of power from such an alternative source.
Samsung also introduced earlier this year an initiative to use fuel cells in its mobile phone handsets to bring some green into the environmental nightmare of cell phones. In December, Greenpeace ranked Samsung ahead of Apple and Toshiba, and nearly tied with LG, in terms of environmental friendliness. Other manufacturers, however, like Nokia, Sony, HP, and Motorola, received higher scores.
