Need a USB drive? Check the local laundry mat
United Kingdom - The IT Examiner is reporting that over 9,000 USB memory sticks were abandoned in UK laundrettes during 2008, presumably as they fell out of pockets during the wash or dry cycles. In addition, Credant Technologies reported in September that 6,193 handheld devices are left in taxi cabs every six months.
Taxi cabs often wind up being the final home of laptops, iPods and memory sticks - at least before being reclaimed by the taxi companies "lost and found" systems.
Michael Callahan, a senior VP at Credant Technologies, urges mobile USB storage users to digitally encrypt their data so that even if it is lost it is unlikely to be compromised.
