Expensive gasoline boosts interest in Segways

Columbus (OH) – The Segway Personal Transporter, once the butt of geeky jokes, is now attracting regular folks who are put off by high gasoline prices.  Segway stores are popping up everywhere and some stores are reporting very brisk sales of the $5000+ electric standup scooter.  According to the Associated Press, Ohio area stores are unboxing models and selling them in just a few days.

While Segway itself doesn’t release sales figures, the AP says many stores are experiencing a 30 to 40 percent increase in walk in traffic.
