Mclean (VA) - A recently filed Apple patent describes a new kind of touchpad that lights up to in response to normal activity. In the patent, Apple says it might be "desirable to provide visual stimuli at the touch pad so that a user can better operate the touch pad."  For example, the patent talks about the touchpad illuminating when it is touched, and light paths could follow the movement of touch.

Sony gets FCC approval for stylish VGN-TZ notebook

Sony has taken the final hurdle in bringing a new compact notebook to the U.S. The new TZ series will weigh in at just 2.62 pounds and offer a choice of Intel’s ultra low-voltage processors U7500 (1.06 GHz) or U7600 (1.2 GHz). Built on Intel’s Santa Rosa platform the notebooks will support draft-n (v2.0) wireless connectivity and come with an optional Novatel EvDO wireless broadband card, according to the documents filed with the FCC.

Sprint brings back Katana phone with two new models

Overland Park (KS) - Sanyo has introduced the next generation to its Katana multimedia phone, offered exclusively with Sprint service. The Katana DLX phone joins the Katana II phone as the successors to the original model that came out just over a year ago.  The Katana II is the basic successor to the Katana, offering much of the same functionality. The Katana II does increase the internal capacity, with 21 MB of data storage possible.  It has a VGA digital camera and access to all of Sprint's Vision network features.
