Panel concludes technology alone can't protect kids, parents needed

  • New York (NY) - A panel concluded earlier this week that no single technology employed to assist parents against unwanted Internet contact with their kids, including adult content and individuals, is viable. Kids still need their parents.

The Harvard-led, year long Internet Safety Technical Task Force dismissed several current technologies, including age-verification techniques. While the panel does admit technology can be an important component in the effort to protect minors online, the roles of parents, teachers, mentors, social services, law enforcement and the minors themselves are all crucial to ensure their safety.
