Asustek lays blame for Eee Box virus on China-based OEM

  • Asustek Computer has said that, in order to cut costs, a second-tier OEM in China was given the responsibility of manufacturing Eee Box systems for the Japan market, and it was an error on the maker's part which led to the recent shipping of systems infected with a virus. Asustek said that since quality control at the OEM cannot meet requirements, it is considering transferring future Eee Box orders to Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry), Pegatron or other second-tier OEM providers.
